Capturing authentic memories and epic moments is my favorite part of being a photographer. We all go through life experiencing so-called “big” and “little” moments—like buying a house, getting engaged, or falling in love for the first time. No matter how big or small a moment may be, if it means something to you, then it’s worth capturing. And I’m here to not only help you celebrate your milestones, but to also help you remember your emotions. So today I want to give you a better sense of what I like to call “authentic memories” and “epic moments”—because in my eyes, these are the best moments of our life. Take a look at my words of wisdom below for a little inspiration as well as some of my favorite moments I’ve captured behind the camera.

AUTHENTIC MEMORIES

To me, authentic memories are those moments you can’t put into words. It’s those moments where you have such strong emotions, so much love in your heart, that all you can do is smile. And if you ask me, those are the best kind of memories. Whether it’s holding your new wife during the first dance at your wedding, laughing with your kids as you run around the park, or kissing your husband on your 25th anniversary, these are the authentic memories I hope to always help you remember.

Authentic memories are true to who you are and whether you know it now or not, moments you’ll want to remember for the rest of your life. Having that feeling of sincere love, joy, and happiness can be unexplanatory, which is why capturing the moment with a photograph is so important. Because while you may just feel like you’re having fun, you’re doing so much more than that. You’re not just creating moments. You’re also creating memories.

EPIC MOMENTS

Epic moments in your life can be anything from getting engaged, to starting your own business, graduating college, visiting a landmark or celebrating a friendship. Some of these epic moments are once in a lifetime opportunities—opportunities that you’ll never want to forget. So it’s important to capture these moments as they’re happening. It’s hard to express how important it is to make a “big deal” out of these milestones but let me remind you that celebrating your accomplishments, the beauty around you, and your life as a whole is incredibly meaningful.

Epic moments are your life accomplishments as well as milestone events. It’s also the epic locations we visit (like Yosemite Falls, or the Golden Gate Bridge) as well as the epic changes we make in our lives. Like having a baby or proposing to the woman you love. It’s the so-called “big” or meaningful moments in our lives that we want to remember forever.
