“A baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years, and in your heart until the day you die.” – Mary Mason
Maternity photos are so special because they celebrate both the arrival of your precious baby and the beautiful journey of your maternity. It's something so important we believe it should always be celebrated, captured, and remembered.
But what's the perfect photography session look like for your maternity photos? If you're hiring a photographer, how long should you plan for, where should you go, and what should you expect?
Making it your own
We always custom tailor our sessions based on our client's needs and wants.
Many mamas-to-be envision a special session with multiple outfits like a cute and playful outfit to celebrate new life and youth followed by a beautiful flowing dress to capture the timeless beauty of pregnancy.
Some woman want to take their time thoughtfully putting together each pose and enjoying some time in the great outdoors, while others don't mind a bit of fast-paced action at a nearby park.
Whatever your preference, we take joy in working with you to tailor your session especially for your wants and needs.
Enjoying your time and photos
Although most maternity sessions are at least 1-hour in duration, we like to let our clients know they have options. The most important thing to us is helping you custom tailor a session perfectly suited to your needs and goals.
For example, a standard 30-minute mini-session with us will get you at least 15-30 nice photos to choose from with a single outfit, but is faster paced and limited in the variety of scenery we can capture at your chosen location. On the other hand, if you're looking for a slower paced session with multiple outfits and a variety of at least 30-60 photos to choose from afterwards, we recommend at least a standard 1-hour session.
If you're simply looking for a few photos to send out with your holiday cards or baby shower invitations, then a shorter session is perfectly fine. But if you're wanting to put together a beautiful photo album for everyone to enjoy, then a longer session is what you'll want to choose.
Choosing somewhere special
Some clients are interested in taking photos at multiple locations or at a very special place like the forest, the mountains, in the snow, or at a river or lake, which usually requires a bit of traveling, and we're totally okay with accommodating your desires. Just let us know!
Other clients have a nearby location they're interested in filled with fond memories and meanings like the school grounds they grew in or at the neighbor park they used to play in. Wherever you decide, we can be there to capture the photos you'll love.
Just remember, the most important subject of your photos is you and your baby so any location is sure to look great as long as you two are in the frame!
